G'day, mates! Today the team was afforded the experience of a lifetime as we swam and snorkeled at the incredible Great Barrier Reef - the world's largest coral reef system at the edge of Australia's Continental Shelf that stretches roughly the equivalent from New York to Florida. We could not have asked for a more perfect day as the sky was clear, the sun was plentiful and the water was calm and crystal blue.

G'day, mates! After three flights and 20+ hours in the air, we have finally arrived in Cairns for the first leg of our 12-day Australian tour. The team gathered in Dallas on Friday, Dec. 27 and boarded a flight to Brisbane, Australia which landed on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 29 and then hopped on the final plane to Cairns. It was strange to completely skip Dec. 28th while in flight, but everyone is quickly adjusting to the date and time change. Once we arrived to The Hotel Cairns everyone had free time to walk around, grab lunch and check out the local area, which included a large swimming pool overlooking the lagoon, Aboriginal shops, a Great War memorial and several local eateries to name a few.

George Washington women's soccer alumna Kerry Dziczkaniec ('93) received the Glenn "Mooch" Myernick National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year award, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced last week.
Dziczkaniec, who was also named the NSCAA Southeast Region Assistant Coach of the Year, helped Virginia to a 24-1-1 record this season as the Cavaliers reached the NCAA Women's College Cup for the first time in 22 years. Virginia also set school records for wins in a season (24), goals (78) and shutouts (16) as it claimed the ACC regular-season title.
"Everyone associated with our program is very excited about Kerry D. being named the NSCAA's National Assistant Coach of the Year," Virginia Head Coach Steve Swanson said in a release at virginiasports.com. "Not only is she an outstanding coach, but she is an even better person who has earned the respect of all our players."
A 1993 graduate of GW, Dziczkaniec was a four-year member of the women's soccer team from 1989-92. A two-year team captain and starter in goal, she was named team MVP in 1991 when she posted a career-high six shutouts. Dziczkaniec currently ranks fourth on the Colonials' all-time shutouts list with 11 over her career. Following her time at GW she spent several seasons in the USISL W-League and led the Maryland Pride to a National Championship in 1996.
GW Men's Basketball Coach Mike Lonergan joined Brian Mitchell on Comcast SportsNet's SportsTalk Live on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013.
Heading into its annual winter break training trip to Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico from Jan. 1-7, the George Washington women's swimming team has been ranked third in the Atlantic 10 by CollegeSwimming.com.
Sophomore Rob Craven has been named the GW Department of Athletics & Recreation's Community Service Student-Athlete of the Month for November.
"Over the past semester, Rob has taken the lead on the men's cross country in engaging in community service projects," said LifeSkills Coordinator Ted Costigan. "The nearly 50 hours that Rob has volunteered this semester has made a big impact as our student-athletes strive to Raise High in the community."
