GW Rowing Winter Training Blog Day #1

The George Washington men's and women's rowing teams are both down in Tampa, Fla., for this first week of 2014 to participate in the program's annual winter training trip. The annual trip south allows the Colonials to get a week of practices in on the various waterways, channels and bays in the surrounding areas of Tampa.

Throughout the training trip, members of both teams will be providing daily blog posts to keep friends and fans of the programs informed as the teams get ready for the 2014 springs season.

Colonial Fans,

We are extremely excited to start off our 2014 Winter Training Camp in Tampa, Florida and even more excited to share it with you! After over a month of indoor training, our crew is finally ready to get back on the water and start preparing for a competitive Spring season. We kicked off our training trip on Thursday morning with a long team run and then made our way to Stewards Foundation Boathouse - our home base for the next ten days - and completed a productive water practice consisting of good technical and steady state swing. After having lunch at University of Tampa's dining hall and a few hours to relax at the hotel, we headed out for an afternoon technical row. Overall, day one was a success (despite some afternoon rain showers) and we are excited to get back onto the water early Friday morning for some competitive swing.

Until next time,
GW Women's Rowing

Jimmy Stafford - Senior - GW Men's Rowing

Today was the first day of our training trip down here in Tampa, Florida.  We started the day off with a 7 am workout.  This was our first time back on the water for a little over a month, so it was great to finally get back out there.  Our morning row was light with mixed lineups from varsity to freshman.  We rowed by sixes down the shipping channel and got of the water feeling excited about our first row. In the afternoon we had a practice scheduled for 2 pm.  But due to some thunderstorms we were not able to go out.  Instead we did a 30 minute core circuit, which was 15 exercises each for 2 minutes. We had one more workout for the day we went on a 45 minute run around 4 pm.
