GW Rowing Winter Training Blog Day #7

These past few days have been rather interesting between the thick fog and extremely cold temperatures.

On Tuesday morning we completed an intense erg work out.  The team was split up into three groups for 8x500 meters.  Then, that afternoon was spent in three even eights mixed with both freshman and varsity oarsmen.  We completed an hour long battle paddle; each eight raced each other at full pressure at varying stroke rate.  Tuesday night we concluded the long day with a delicious team dinner hosted by our athletic director, Patrick Nero. On Wednesday morning we broke down to small boats and completed a long steady state row.  We were given time off Wednesday afternoon to recover from these tough few practices.

Greetings from Florida! On Wednesday our crew took a well deserved break from training and spent a fun-filled day at Universal Studios. Our day started with a quick breakfast at the hotel and then an hour and a half bus ride towards Orlando. Once we arrived, we took a team photo (see below!) and were then free to roam both Universal Studios Florida and the Universal's Islands of Adventure due to our dual park passes. Our team took the park by storm, venturing to places like Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, Seuss Landing, and fan favorite Wizarding World of Harry Potter. For those that were less rollercoaster inclined, there were a number of film production attractions throughout the park that offered amazing insights into how some of Universal Studios' best films were produced. After almost a full 10 hours in the park, we ended with a delicious dinner at NBA City (shout out to Steph for setting up a fantastic meal!). As a team, we would like to take this opportunity to thank the anonymous donor as well as our entire coaching staff for making this day possible. Now that our day has come to a close, we are ready to get back on the water tomorrow morning and burn off all that butter beer! Cheers to an awesome day!
