Manly Beach Surf Lessons: Video
Today was a perfect day for catching some waves in Sydney as we're close to wrapping our Australian tour. In the morning we rode from Sydney's main ferry terminal, Circular Quay, in Darling Harbor and rode for about half an hour to Manly Beach. Following roughly an hour of free time and lunch in the hip beach town, the team met up at Manly Surf School for a lesson.
After putting on our wetsuits we grabbed our colorful surfboards and hit the sand. While a handful of players are veteran surfers, the majority of the group was full of novices. Our instructor first taught us about the ocean's currents, tides, different types of waves and how to reach the prime riding waves safely and quickly, then we learned how to stand and balance ourselves on our boards on land. Eager and excited we soon headed into the water and began our impressive afternoon of Sydney surfing.
Everyone had an incredible time, practicing and showing off their skills and was reluctant to leave Manly at the end of the lesson. Upon returning to the mainland, the evening was free for everyone to shop and sightsee downtown Sydney.
Tomorrow is the final full day of our Australian tour, so we'll be sure to go out on top!
