@GW_WomensRowing Varsity 8 Honored at Homecoming

Members of the GW Women's Rowing Varsity 8,which brought home a gold medal at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship, were honored at the men's basketball homecoming game against Fordham on Saturday at half court of the Charles E. Smith Center.


The nine student-athletes - coxswain Haley Dannehower, Sarah Pickus, Amanda Young, Bethany Grim, Megan Culberson, Anna Kaminski, Annie Morse, Paige Norman and Christine Popp - along with head coach Eric Carcich received championship rings from the Department of Athletics & Recreation and a standing ovation from the sold-out crowd for their memorable run last season.

The Varsity 8 boat swept both is morning heat and the Grand Final at last year's A-10 Championship to clinch GW's first gold medal at the event since 2006. After winning the morning heat by a margin of 4.5 seconds the Colonials went on to dominate the Grand Final, winning by open water, to earn the program's first Varsity 8 title since 2001.
