GW men's basketball Head Coach Mike Lonergan joined several DMV area coaches for a leadership panel at the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington's (CCADW) annual staff retreat on Tuesday afternoon.

Coach Lonergan was joined by Georgetown men's and women's basketball coaches John Thompson III and Natasha Adair, Maryland football head coach Randy Edsall and Washington Capitals play-by-play announcer Joe Beninati, who served as moderator, to discuss how they build teamwork and culture and teach students in front of several hundred CCADW staff members.  The event took place on the campus of Catholic University, Coach Lonergan's alma mater and the school he coached for 12 seasons and led to an NCAA Division III Championship in 2001.

"It was nice to get back on campus at Catholic University and an honor to serve on the panel with such a terrific group of coaches," said Coach Lonergan, who discussed his role in building foundations for his programs by surrounding himself with great people - from coaching staff and managers to support staff - and choosing student-athletes with high character and tremendous work ethic.

"It was a rewarding experience, especially being at my alma mater, to be able to give back to a local group that does so much for the Washington, D.C., community," added Coach Lonergan.

The five panelists wore red ribbons to honor the memory of Jamie Roberts, a CUA staff member and assistant coach who passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 13.
