Sayōnara USA, Kon'nichiwa Japan!
The travel party for the GW men's basketball team had an early start on Wednesday as it begins a 10-day tour of Japan, with the bus rolling out from Smith Center at 4 a.m. Following a 7 a.m. flight to San Francisco and a quick layover, the team and staff will board a 14-hour flight that delivers them to Osaka around 3 p.m. local time on Thursday.
With a 13-hour time change, the group will take Thursday evening to get checked into their hotel and acclimate themselves, before things really get going Friday morning.
The Colonials are set to visit Osaka, Tokyo, Hamamatsu and Okinawa during their tour, while playing four games - three against the Japanese National Team and one against the Ryukyu Golden Kings of the Basketball Japan (BJ) League. Part of the team will participate in a sport globalization course and the entire group will enjoy a variety of sightseeing.
There are a number of ways to follow GW's travels. Updates will be posted to Twitter (@GW_MBB), Instagram (GW_MBB), Snapchat (GW_George) and Facebook (GW Men's Basketball). Additionally, student-athletes will provide insight on their experience through GWsports.com's blog, 22nd & G.
