Jake Ortiz posted a record-breaking weekend on the boards as the GW men's swimming and diving team defeated Georgetown on Friday and Atlantic 10 rival George Mason on Saturday. The sophomore snapped both GW's 1-meter and 3-meter diving records that had stood since 2001 and 1991, respectively, meeting NCAA Zone qualifying standards in each event.
On Friday at Georgetown, Ortiz won the 1-meter competition (282.75) and took second on the 3-meter boards (284.25) setting personal bests in both events to help the Colonials defeat the Hoyas.
On Saturday, Ortiz took first on the 1-meter boards, posting a GW school record and NCAA Zone qualifying score of 325.05. The sophomore then won the 3-meter competition with yet another GW program record and NCAA Zone qualifying score of 332.40 to help the Colonials defeat George Mason. Both events marked the first NCAA Zone qualifying performances of his career.
