GW Athletics' Buff & Blue Fund Challenge Hits 100 Donor Milestone
GW Athletic Hall of Famer Bob Tallent Among Donors Whose Contributions Led to First $10,000 Gift
Spearheaded by Class of 1994 alumnus and GW Athletics Advisory Council member Gil Cisneros, who has pledged $10,000 to GW Athletics for every 100 donors to the Buff & Blue Fund, the first-ever Buff & Blue Fund Challenge is in full swing and just eclipsed the 100-donor mark to yield the first $10,000 gift from Mr. Cisneros during the Challenge.
With men's basketball's undefeated home record, women's basketball's first Top 25 ranking since 2008, and gymnastics' strong start to the season, there has never been a better time to be a fan and supporter of GW.
"By all accounts, the Buff & Blue Fund Challenge is off to a great start, and the momentum is on our side," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "To have 100 donors already is quite a statement, and we're more committed than ever to demonstrating to our loyal and generous supporters like Gil and the rest of the Buff & Blue Fund members that GW Athletics will always strive to make you proud."
GW Athletics Hall of Famer Bob Tallent was among the latest to join the challenge, doing so on Saturday at men's basketball's win over Revolutionary Rival George Mason at the nearly sold-out Smith Center.
"I want to personally thank Gil Cisneros for his generosity and for supporting the Buff & Blue Fund Challenge, which is a smart, easy and fun way to contribute to the Buff & Blue Fund," said Tallent. "As a former Colonial, I am extremely proud of GW's recent athletic accomplishments and the positive direction each of the 27 varsity programs is taking. Although they are not GW grads, my sons have also joined the Challenge to show their support for the great job all of the student-athletes and coaching staffs are doing. Keep up the good work, GW Athletics - and all you Colonial fans, make Gil donate some big bucks!"
Cisneros' challenge runs through the end of the 2014-15 men's basketball season, and is part of Making History: The Campaign for GW, the university's comprehensive and ambitious billion-dollar philanthropic campaign. The Department of Athletics and Recreation plays a pivotal role in university-wide Campaign efforts and is geared toward mirroring the overall excellence of GW.
