The George Washington University Department of Athletics and Recreation hosted Homecoming this past weekend, and for the thousands that flocked to Foggy Bottom for the weekend, lasting memories were relived and new ones were made through a packed line-up of activities.
Among the many events that took place at GW during Homecoming, GW Athletics celebrated five teams that won championships in 2011-12, the men's basketball team nearly erased a 17-point deficit to #14 Butler before ultimately falling, women's basketball and gymnastics earned resounding victories on a weekend when women's athletics was at the forefront, nationally renowned columnist and commentator Christine Brennan headlined a Title IX celebration, and among the thousands of people that came back to GW for Homecoming, the 1993 Sweet Sixteen men's basketball team was honored on the 20th anniversary of their run that GW fans won't soon forget.
Fans were also treated to a free, pregame tailgate prior to the men's basketball game, and alumni of all ages from past basketball teams held a private reception to get to know today's current student-athletes. George Washington's Board of Trustees as well as the GW Athletics National Advisory Council were also on campus for Homecoming in a GW tradition that promises to get bigger and bigger every year.
