Colonial of the Week - Caira Washington and GW Women's Basketball

Caira Washington receives her Most Outstanding Player trophy from A-10 Commissioner Bernadette McGlade.
March 7, 2016 The George Washington women's basketball team won its second straight Atlantic 10 championship and sixth overall to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament with a 63-60 win over third-seeded Duquesne on Sunday. The Colonials became the first back-to-back A-10 champions since Xavier in 2010 and 2011. GW's six A-10 titles also match the league record set by former conference members Penn State and Xavier.

Junior Caira Washington, an Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after averaging 14.3 points and 12.0 rebounds while shooting 54.8 percent (17-31) in three games. The Brandywine, Maryland, native scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Sunday's title game and was key in the Colonials' final defensive stand, forcing Duquesne's April Robinson, the A-10 Co-Player of the Year, into an off-balance desperation 3-point attempt as time expired.
