Colonials of the Week: Jonquel Jones and GW Women's Basketball

Jonquel Jones was named the A-10 Championship Most Outstanding Player.
March 9, 2015 The George Washington women's basketball team won its first Atlantic 10 championship since 2003 to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Colonials became the first No. 1 seed to win the conference title since Xavier in 2011 with a 75-62 win over second-seeded Dayton on Sunday. The victory was the program-record 29th of the season for GW, which has won eight games in a row and 27-of-28 since Nov. 24.

Junior Jonquel Jones, the A-10 Player and Defensive Player of the Year, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player after averaging 17.0 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.7 blocks in three games. The Freeport, Bahamas, native scored 16 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as the Colonials rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit in Sunday's title game. Jones scored nine straight points in 55 seconds during GW's decisive 18-4 run and finished 8-of-16 from the floor with a career-high four three-pointers.
