GW Athletics National Advisory Council Starting a 'GW Athletics Revolution'
Spring Campaign Aims to Increase Alumni Involvement in GW Athletics
April 3, 2013
The GW Athletics National Advisory Council is excited to announce its spring campaign, the 'GW Athletics Revolution.' In its first year, the GW Athletics National Advisory Council provides volunteer and philanthropic leadership by engaging key constituents of GW Athletics.
"Our Advisory Council strives to connect alumni, parents and fans directly to GW Athletics, as the Athletics Department seeks to provide the best environment possible for our student-athletes to achieve at the highest levels in competition and in life," Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero noted. "We are thrilled that the council has begun this campaign as we look to grow our base of support through the Buff & Blue Fund."
The GW Athletics Revolution aims to increase the number of GW Athletics alumni who are supporting the program financially with gifts to a specific sport or to the Buff & Blue Fund.
"This campaign is what GW Athletics needs in order to deliver a world-class experience for our student-athletes that mirrors the overall excellence of GW," noted Kristie Helfrich, a 1997 GW graduate, member of the GW National Advisory Council and a former Colonials' gymnast.
The campaign uses social media, along with a series of emails, phone calls and direct mail to share the message with alumni, parents and fans. "We completed a similar campaign last year for men's rowing and received overwhelming support," identified Chris Hawthorne, a 1984 graduate of the university who is also a member of the Advisory Council. "By making a gift, we can ensure the ongoing success and continued tradition of excellence for GW Athletics."
Gifts to the Buff & Blue Fund go to support GW student-athletes as they work hard to become champions in the classroom, in the community and in competition. Gifts to the Buff & Blue Fund benefit all 23 varsity sports, and financial contributions can also be made to individual sports.
