Seven GW Athletics Teams Recognized by NCAA With APR Public Recognition Award
GW Accounts For 11 Percent of A-10 Schools' Team Recognitions
GW's women’s cross country, golf, gymnastics, women’s soccer, men's tennis and men's and women's water polo teams were honored.
"By achieving these top Academic Progress Rates, we’re seeing our academic priorities mirror our athletic endeavors," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "Our student-athletes, educational support staff and coaches should be commended on this accomplishment."
This continues a trend in which GW Athletics has seen at least six teams earn APR Public Recognition Awards in the last five years.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Today's announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes by achieving the top APRs within their respective sports.
The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 983 to a perfect 1,000, depending on the sport. All Division I programs’ APR scores will be released publicly on April 20.
The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
