Nine GW Athletics Teams Earn Perfect NCAA Multi-Year Academic Progress Rate

April 20, 2016 The NCAA released Division I Academic Progress Rates (APR) today with nine GW Athletics teams achieving a perfect multi-year rate, matching an all-time program high.

GW’s women’s cross country, golf, gymnastics, women’s soccer, men's tennis, men’s and women’s track and men's and women's water polo teams notched a perfect 1,000.

The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2011-2012, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.

Last week, GW's women’s cross country, golf, gymnastics, women’s soccer, men's tennis and men's and women's water polo teams were honored for achieving a four-year APR within the top 10% of their sport nationwide. Men’s and women’s track didn’t debut at GW until the 2014-15 season.

"By achieving these outstanding Academic Progress Rates, we’re seeing our academic priorities mirror our athletic endeavors," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "Our student-athletes, educational support staff and coaches should be commended on this accomplishment."

GW’s nine teams with a perfect multi-year rate also continue a trend in which GW Athletics has seen at least six teams earn APR Public Recognition Awards in the last five years.

The APR announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes.
