Student-Athletes Honored at Sixth Annual Georgey Awards
Show Celebrates a Year of Excellence in GW Athletics
Hosted by a fearless foursome in men’s rowing’s Dylan Goodman, men’s soccer’s Christian Lawal, volleyball’s Alexis Lete and sailing’s Gabriella Malek, GW Athletics’ approximately 500 student-athletes from 27 varsity sports got together for an evening of celebration, honors and memories at the sixth annual Georgey Awards at GW’s Lisner Auditorium on Thursday night.
The Georgeys celebrate what it means to be a Colonial, as GW’s champions from the classroom, competition and the community are feted. The evening held special significance for the collective body of GW student-athletes as the NCAA was on hand to award GW Athletics the championship trophy for the second consecutive year for capturing the Division 1 NCAA Teamworks community service challenge.

A special tribute also contributed to a memorable night. In one last act of giving by the graduating class of seniors, the soon-to-be-graduates presented Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero with a collection of hand-written notes about their most special memories of their time as GW student-athletes. Identifying Nero as a guiding force not only in competition, but also in life, the outgoing seniors led a standing ovation as a fitting cap to their time in Foggy Bottom.
