WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) hosted a kickball tournament at Mount Vernon Field Thursday, April 28, that helped raise funds for Special Olympics' DC chapter.

Senior men's swimmer Andrew Maguire, Vice President of GW's SAAC, along with the seven-member council and volunteers organized and staffed the tournament, which featured 10 teams comprised of 115 student-athletes, coaches and staff.

"Our premise for the whole event was similar to the SAAC dodgeball tournament in December in that we were trying to promote a sense of community throughout the entire athletic department," said Maguire. "We could not have been more pleased with how it turned out. It was our first time running the tournament and it was a complete success, especially considering that it was the end of the semester and several GW teams were traveling so they could not compete."

The event raised nearly $230 for the District's Special Olympics branch, bringing the SAAC donation total from its dodgeball and kickball tournaments to more than $500 for area charities.

The event's winning team consisted of women's lacrosse players Jordy Bathras and Madison Pohle, men's soccer players Andrew Aluko, Bailey Hinners, Tyler Ranalli and Francisco Solorzano, and women's soccer players Stephanie Marcozzi, Alex Neal, Nicole Ulrick and Jane Wallis.
