Seven GW Athletics Teams Recognized by NCAA With Perfect APR Multi-Year Rate
Programs Were Also Honored Last Week For APRs in Top 10 Percent of Their Sport
WASHINGTON - The NCAA announced Division I Academic Progress Multi-Year Rates (APR) today, with the seven GW programs who garnered public recognition awards last week for having an APR in the top 10 percent of their sport also recognized today for their perfect 1,000 multi-year rate.
GW's women's cross country, golf, women's soccer, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's water polo were recognized.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The multi-year rate reflects the 2010-11 through 2013-14 academic years.
"Our top priority in GW Athletics is to prepare our student-athletes for the rest of their lives beyond college," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. "By achieving top Academic Progress Rates, these seven sports have set the standard and have truly become the Champions in the Classroom that we strive for them to be."
The APR announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes.
GW Athletics has seen at least six teams earn APR Public Recognition Awards in the last four years, with a high of nine teams in last year's report.
