Buff & Blue Fund Surpasses 1,500 Donors
New Milestone Reached in Fund's Fourth Year of Existence
As the Buff & Blue Fund enters its fourth year, recent fundraising successes have signaled that GW Athletics is moving forward stronger than ever. In addition to reaching record setting donor numbers, donations to the Athletic Department increased by 171% this past year. A generous gift by baseball alumnus and university Trustee Ave Tucker led the fundraising efforts, and in recognition of his support the baseball field at Barcroft Park was dedicated as "Tucker Field." Also, the philanthropic leadership of alumnus Gil Cisneros, who spearheaded the Buff and Blue Fund Challenge, paved the way for GW Athletics to be able to provide high-level resources to student-athletes.
"We take pride in being a part of our student-athletes' journeys to achieve at the highest levels in their chosen sport and in their studies, and we recognize that Buff & Blue Fund donors are the driving force behind our success in helping them to fulfill their dreams,” said Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero. “On behalf of our talented young men and women, our coaches and the Buff & Blue Fund staff, we are extremely grateful for the tremendous support we continue to receive and the generosity of our donors.”
The Buff & Blue Fund provides financial support for more than 450 student-athletes, who compete across 27 varsity sports. Contributions directly support new initiatives like the Training Table, where student-athletes enjoy a healthy breakfast each morning, as well as renovations and the expansion of athletic facilities, recruiting and team travel budgets.
"It's a true testament to the passion of our donors that we have seen this level of engagement and commitment to GW Athletics," said Assistant Athletic Director for Development Steven Farmer. "More than 1,500 former and current student-athletes, alumni, parents and fans stepped up to make this a successful year."
Buff & Blue Fund donors are the team behind the teams, ensuring that GW remains competitive in every aspect of collegiate athletics, from recruiting top student-athletes to providing the resources, tools and opportunities to become champions in the classroom, in the community and in competition.
