When not serving as the home arena for George Washington's basketball, gymnastics, swimming, volleyball and water polo teams, the venerable Charles E. Smith Center has hosted a litany of luminaries, celebrities and politicians since it opened nearly 40 years ago.

From U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, to world-renowned comics Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, Billy Crystal and Jerry Seinfeld, to Kobe Bryant, LeBron James and the U.S. Men's National Basketball Team, and musicians Bob Dylan and Ray Charles, numerous legends and titans of their professions have graced the building.

On Wednesday night July 16 in Foggy Bottom it was the tennis world's turn when superstars Venus Williams and Martina Hingis - with a combined 12 singles and 25 doubles Grand Slam titles between them - competed for the Washington Kastles in their new home at the Smith Center.

In front of a Kastles' franchise record crowd of 3,275, the old rivals and current teammates played as doubles partners for the first time ever and led the Kastles to a 23-18 victory over the Texas Wild in WTT action.

In search of their fourth straight and fifth overall World TeamTennis Championship, the Kastles return to Smith Center in a match that will again feature Hingis on Monday, July 21st, and play their final regular season home match the following night when Sloane Stephens joins the squad.

With stilt-walkers, Kastles cheerleaders and fan giveaways, there's something for everyone at the Charles E. Smith Center.
