Colonial of the Week
Sept. 4, 2006
Name: John Hornberger
Hornberger amassed 14 goals during a four-game span at the Navy Labor Day Open to lead the GW men's water polo team to its best start (4-0) in the program's 24-year history.
On Sunday morning, Hornberger tied a career-high with six goals to guide GW to a 13-11 victory against 18th-ranked Santa Clara, the team's first win over a nationally-ranked opponent during head coach Scott Reed's eight-year tenure.
He registered hat tricks in triumphs versus Gannon (16-6) and MIT (15-3) on the first day of Open play on Saturday, then chipped in two goals in the finale against Iona (10-6) on Sunday. The lone senior on GW's roster, Hornberger now has 112 career goals.
