In his first games playing at home for the Colonials, Atakan Destici of the No. 16 GW men's water polo team put on a show for the fans in attendance at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool over the weekend as he scored 19 goals in three games.
On Saturday afternoon, Destici registered eight goals to lead GW to a 16-9 win over league-rival Wagner. He did much of his damage in the first half, scoring five times as the Colonials cruised to a 10-0 halftime lead. In the nightcap Saturday, the Istanbul, Turkey, native scored another six goals while adding four assists and also leading the team with six steals and two ejections drawn, as GW beat Fordham 18-6.
Destici capped the weekend with a five-goal performance in Sunday's 16-11 loss to No. 13 Bucknell. In addition to his 19 goals in three games, he totaled 11 steals, six assists, five ejections drawn and three field blocks.
