Sophomore Francisco Dias went on a six-day run through singles and doubles competition at the ITA/D'Novo All-American Men's Tennis Championships last week, highlighted by upsets over four nationally-ranked opponents. Dias, ranked No. 89 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, defeated three straight opponents in the qualifying round to become the first GW men's tennis student-athlete to advance to main draw play under seventh-year head coach Greg Munoz. Dias earned a spot in the main draw with an upset over No. 58, but dropped a three-set match to No. 26 in the first round of main draw action. The Lisbon, Portugal, native went on to upset No. 17 and No. 31 to advance to the third round of the main draw consolation bracket, where he eventually fell to No. 60. Dias also teamed up with senior Alexander van Gils in the doubles qualifying round to defeat back-to-back opponents, including an upset over the 55th-ranked pair in the nation.

Senior Cameron Illes led GW to a 3-1 weekend at the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament with 49 saves while allowing 45 goals, and he added three steals. Illes matched his own program record with 19 saves while allowing just seven goals in the Colonials' 8-7 win over Division III No. 8 Whittier to open the tournament. He followed with 12 saves against 11 goals allowed in GW's 12-11 upset victory over No. 19 California Baptist. The senior from Pittsburgh also recorded nine saves against Division III No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and 11 against Division III No. 5 Chapman. Needing just 21 saves entering the tournament to set GW's all-time record, Illes shattered the mark after just two contests and now has 981 in his career.
