A local product of Eastern High School, who later gained her master's degree ('52) at GW, George starred in four sports as an undergraduate: basketball, softball, rifle, and tennis. In 1975, after serving for 24 years a professor in the Department of Human Kinetics and Leisure Studies (HKLS) at the University, she was appointed Women's Athletic Director at GW and served in that position until her retirement in 1987. Under her direction, Women's Athletics at George Washington grew from a small, locally-based program to one that consistently competed against powerful NCAA Division I schools. George and her husband, Jim, have one son. |
