John Gruppo is in his first year as the Assistant Athletics Director for Budget & Finance at the George Washington University. In this role, he will be responsible for oversight of the Athletics Department's Business Office including budget management, processing of financial transactions and all financial reporting requirements.

Gruppo comes to GW from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., where he spent nine years working in the Department of Athletics, the last four years as Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Ticketing. In this role, Gruppo served as a member of the Athletic Department's Senior Leadership Team and oversaw all Business Office & Ticket Office Operations while also spending the 2011-12 season as the sport administrator for Women's Rowing. Prior to that, he spent five years overseeing a combination of Ticketing, Business Operations, Merchandise and Licensing, and Student-Athlete Welfare.

In addition to his role in the Department of Athletics, he spent four years as a Senior Lecturer in Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies - Masters in Sport Leadership program. He was responsible for designing the curriculum for a class in Ticket Sales and Strategies and has taught the course since it was first offered.

Gruppo is a two-time graduate of Northeastern University, where he earned both a Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training and a Master's in Business Administration with concentrations in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

John and his wife, Sara, currently reside in Fairfax, Va.
