Director of Sports Media &
Campus/Community Relations
Ed McKee

In his 20th year at GW, Ed McKee has served the athletic department in a variety of capacities since joining the staff in 1986. He is currently responsible for cultivating alumni relationships and communications, as well as marketing sponsorships and group ticket sales to various groups on campus and throughout the metro area. He also is the liaison between the department and the GW Athletic Hall of Fame and the National Consortium for Academics and Sports.

McKee has an extensive background of sports media and public relations to the University, including nine years as Sports Information Director at Indiana State University (1971-80). While at the Missouri Valley Conference school in Terre Haute, IN, he helped acquaint both regional and national media with - among others - the emerging talents of All-America basketball star Larry Bird, world class gymnast and Olympian Kurt Thomas, and first team Academic All-America Wallace Johnson, who enjoyed a nine-year major league baseball career, primarily with the Montreal Expos.

In 1980, he joined the Indiana Pacers where he served as the NBA club's Director of Media and Public Relations for three seasons. He moved to the nation's capital in 1983 and for the next three years served as Director of Basketball for Special Olympics International, a program for mentally retarded athletes.

A native of St. Louis, McKee is a graduate of Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO, where he captained the basketball team. He was drafted by the Pacers in 1967. He and his wife, Linda, reside in Oakton, VA, and have three children: late daughter Erin, Carrie, 31, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Eddie, 25, a 2001 graduate of Greensboro (N.C.) College.
