Navy Wins Team Point Title at the 15th Annual GW Invitational Crew Classic

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Naval Academy crews took seven first-place finishes, two seconds, and two fourth-place finishes to capture the Gilbert H. Hood, Jr. Point Trophy at the 15th Annual George Washington Invitational Crew Classic Saturday on the Potomac River.

The Midshipmen amassed 66 team points, two more than second-place Virginia en route to the team point title. Georgetown (43 points) placed third in the team point standings. The host Colonials of George Washington tied Marietta College for fourth place with 29 points each.

Virginia's women's varsity eight, ranked 12th in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches poll, won the Howard Wilkins Bowl for the seventh straight year with a time of 6:35.1 edging Columbia by two seconds.

Temple won the men's varsity eight race for the third straight year completing the 2,000-meter course in 5:47.9-two seconds ahead of runner-up Georgetown. The Owls took home the Oliver T. Carr Bowl awarded to the fastest men's heavyweight eight shell.
