WASHINGTON, DC - GW head coach for rowing, Steve Peterson, has been selected as one of seven individuals to serve a four-year term on the United States Rowing Association (USRowing) High Performance Committee, the organization announced on May 21.

Nominees were selected based upon a number of criteria but primarily their experiences as an athlete or coach at the elite level in the sport of rowing.

The committee is made up of seven members including two active athletes as defined by the United States Olympic Committee constitution. The recently elected committee members, in alphabetical order, include:
Bruce Beall
William J. Belden
Jay Feenan
Kris Karlson
Betsy McCagg
Linda Muri
Steve Peterson

The primary task of the High Performance Committee is to develop any and all plans and programs for the identification and the selection of Elite athletes to represent the United States in International Competition. In addition to that, the committee may be called upon to make recommendations to USRowing governing body and the U.S. National Team coaches regarding other facets of the National Team, such as the selection of national team assistant coaching staff personnel, and alternate athlete selection.

Peterson recently concluded his sixth season as head coach for the GW Rowing program. A two-time Atlantic 10 Conference Coach of the Year, Peterson competed in the 1996 Summer Olympic games as a member of the men's lightweight double sculls.
