WASHINGTON, DC - Former men's novice rowing coach Matt Boyle has been promoted to the position of head coach for men's rowing at The George Washington University, Director of GW Rowing and women's varsity coach Steve Peterson has announced. Boyle replaces G. Kininmonth.
A 2000 graduate of GW, Boyle has spent the past two years coaching the Colonials novice men. In the spring of 2002, the novice crew had one of the most successful seasons for the men's program, making it to the grand finals of both the San Diego Crew Classic and Dad Vails, capturing the A-10 Invitational title, and posting regular-season victories over crews from Georgetown, Marietta, Virginia and Massachusetts. Prior to that, Boyle was the men's novice coach at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Boyle rowed for the Colonials from 1999 through 2000 where he was the men's varsity MVP his junior year.
Boyle transferred to GW from the University of Central Florida in 1998 after two seasons as a member of the UCF men's crew. While at UCF, Boyle won the Ralph Bateman Best Athlete Award as a freshman in 1997.
