Helen Betancourt is in her third year at GW and second as Head Coach for the GW Women's rowing program. Prior to coaching at GW, she was the assistant women's coach at San Diego State University and the Episcopal Academy in Philadelphia, PA.

Betancourt graduated cum laude from Brown University in 1998. As captain of the team she helped lead them to two Eastern Sprints titles and a National Championship. During her collegiate career, Betancourt was named Brown's 1998 athlete of the year and listed as one of the University's 100 Greatest Athletes of the Century. In both 1996 and 1998, she was named First-Team All-Ivy League. In addition to rowing for Brown, Betancourt was on four National Teams from 1997 to 2000. In 1997, she won a gold medal at the Under 23 World Championships in the straight four. She later went to the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia as an alternate for the eight.

Prior to coaching full-time Betancourt was working as a personal trainer. She is pursuing a master's degree in exercise science/health and nutrition at GW.
