Women's Rowing Falls to BU, Navy in Playfair Cup

April 5, 2006

BOSTON, MA -- The George Washington women's rowing team conpeted at the 2006 Playfair Cup in Boston last Saturday where they lost races to Boston University and Navy on the Charles River.

"We knew going into the weekend that Boston University would be a tough race," GW head coach Rob McCracken said. "They are traditionally a strong program and are ranked in the top 20 again this year. All of our boats were further behind BU than I would have expected. I was pleased that we were able to get out on Boston College and maintain our lead throughout the entire race."

"While we continue to row well, we are still missing the explosiveness on the drive that we need to compete with top crews. I know that our team is strong enough and I am confident that we will be able to make adjustments during practice this week that will enable us to tap into the power that we possess."

Next up fo the GW women will be the Lake Wheeler Invitational in Raleigh, NC on Saturday, APril 8. hosted by Duke University and the University of North Carolina. Other teams competing are Bucknell, Navy, Eastern Michigan, Tulsa and SMU. Racing runs from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. GW will enter boats in the Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, Varsity 4, and Novice 8 events.
