Men's Rowing Competes at ECAC Regatta

May 12, 2004

WORCESTER, MA - The GW men's freshmen rowing team continued its meteoric rise as they finished second in a field of 18 crews at the ECAC Regatta this past weekend in Worcester, MA.

The crew of Amy Garrison (Arvada, CO), Mike Hill (Ballwin, MO), Mike Mancusi-Ungaro (Philadelphia, PA), Henry Roosevelt (Pocopson, PA), Chris Straub (Windham, NH), Nick Vander Veer (Superior, CO), Ryan Luther (Florissant, MO), Tim Conroy (Bay Village, OH) and Justin Persuitti (Lake Barrington, IL) took the silver medal in a time of 6:21.91, just behind first-place Trinity which finished in 6:14.6.

The Men's Varsity 8 performed strong on the first day of racing but left Worcester with a disappointing 11th place finish in the Petite Final with a time of 6:11.48.

This race marks the culmination of the season for the Men's team as an 8 oared crew, both Novice and Varsity will continue on in 4 oared shells for the IRA regatta from June 3-5.

Men's Rowing relies primarily on 'walk-on' athletes. Interested freshmen are encouraged to e-mail gwcrew@gwu.edu for information on how to join the team.
