Women's Eight Places 17th at Princeton Chase

Oct. 31, 2005

PRINCETON, NJ -- The GW women's rowing team traveled to Princeton, NJ, Sunday to compete in the Princeton Chase regatta on Carnegie Lake. GW entered a pair of eights and many of those same rowers raced again later in the day in the fours event.

The conditions were ideal for racing with temperatures in the 60s and only a slight headwind under sunny skies. The water was flat throughout three-mile course which started in nearby Kingston, NJ, and finished at the Princeton University boathouse.

The GW women raced two varsity eights in the Women's Open Eight. The GW A boat finished 17th while the B boat placed 35th of 43 entries in the race. GW also entered a pair of women's fours.

"While we were pleased with the results, we also realize that we have a lot of work ahead of us to be competitive at the top level," Women's Varsity Coach Rob McCracken said. "We continued to be competitive with the boats we raced at the Head of the Charles [last week] and finished ahead of many of the teams we'll see in the Eastern Sprints."

The two GW Women's Eight entries consist of:
GW A - Mansi Shah, Diane Holcomb, Angela Costales, Hilary Goldberg, Kate Austin, Elizabeth Gordon, Courtney Fawcett, Jean Williamson and Angela Wunderli.

GW B - Sara Neugroschel, Mary Kate Martelon, Ashley McCawley, Elizabeth Cavanaugh, Jennifer Feistritzer, Christine Hamann, Julia King, Laura Crotty and Jessica Grivalsky.

The two GW Women's Four entries consist of:
GW A - Lindsay Doyle, Goldberg, Austin, Jean Williamson and Wunderli.

GW B - Shah, Holcomb, Costales, Gordon and Fawcett.
