Two Rowers Earn A-10 Academic All-Conference

May 5, 2004

WASHINGTON, DC - GW senior Regina Cambilargiu (Fairbanks, AK/North Pole) and junior Emily Garofalo (Pittsfield, ME/Hall-Dale) were named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Rowing Academic All-Conference Team Wednesday, the league office announced. The 11-member team was selected in a vote by the conference's Sports Information Directors.

Cambilargiu maintains a 3.53 GPA as a marketing major while Garofalo has a 3.74 GPA while majoring in Japanese. Both students row in the women's varsity eight shell that placed second at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championships. The varsity eight won the Head of the Occoquan this year defeating crews from nine other schools. The crew also won the petite final at the GW Invitational Crew Classic.

Cambilargiu rows in the stroke position of the varsity eight and is leading the team to one of the strongest seasons in recent years. She has the third-fastest ergometer time for 2,000 meters this year.

Garofalo, who rows in the three seat of the varsity eight, was voted to represent women's rowing on the GW Student-Athlete Advisory Council for 2003-04. She posted the second-fastest ergometer time for 2,000 meters this year.

The GW women next race at the Eastern Sprints this Sunday at Camden, NJ.
