Laura Barunas Earns A-10 Academic All-Conference

May 7, 2003

WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Laura Barunas (Gilford, NH/Gilford) was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Rowing Academic All-Conference Team Wednesday, the league office announced. The 10-member team was selected in a vote by the conference's Sports Information Directors.

Barunas maintains a 3.84 GPA as an exercise science major. Her GPA was third-highest on the 10-member Academic All-Conference team. Last year, she was named one of 15 National Scholar-Athletes in the Mid-Atlantic region by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA).

Barunas, who began rowing as a freshman, rows in the bow seat of the women's varsity four. Her four won the Atlantic 10 Championship on April 26. Her boat placed third at the GW Invitational Crew Classic on April 12 ahead of Columbia, Georgetown and Navy.

As a junior last year, she was a member of the varsity women's eight which posted a 21-12 record. They finished fourth at the Atlantic 10 Championships and had regular-season victories over Georgetown, Penn State, Saint Joseph's and George Mason.
