GW Sailing Set to Host GW Team Race Regatta

The GW Team Race Regatta gets underway Saturday at 10 a.m.

WASHINGTON -- The George Washington Sailing team will host the second annual GW Team Race Regatta at the Washington Sailing Marina on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6.

GW will face a competitive field of top MAISA teams Cornell, Fordham, Hobart & William Smith, Navy, and St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Racing gets underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with live scoring available throughout the weekend at scores.collegesailing.org.

"We're excited to welcome so many friends and family of GW Sailing this weekend for the second annual GW Team Race," said Coach John Pearce. "We have an excellent field this year as all six teams are contenders for the ICSA Team Race Nationals this year, so the competition will be fierce."

Set to sail for GW are Brendan Shanahan, Matt Homa, Kai Friesecke, Riley Legault, Derek Poon-Tip, and Belle Strachan, while Andrew Sheerin, Shira Golub, Henry Young will serve as alternates.

The event will also serve as Sailing Parents Weekend, with all families, friends and alumni invited to attend. There will be a regatta dinner on Saturday night in the Charles E. Smith Center where the growth of GW Sailing will be celebrated and the contributions of the senior class honored. For full details, and to RSVP, click here.
