GW Sailing Back in Action This Weekend
Colonials to Compete in MAISA Team Race Challenge, CJ's Regatta
March 27, 2014
WASHINGTON - After a weekend away from competition, GW sailing returns to action at the MAISA Team Race Challenge in Geneva, N.Y., and CJ's Regatta in Newport News, Va., this weekend, March 29-30.
GW competed at four different regattas the weekend of March 15-16, posting team victories at the CNU Women's Regatta and William & Mary Spring Open, before spending last weekend away from competition in an effort to regroup and prepare for a series of qualifying regattas throughout the month of April.
MAISA Team Race Challenge
Skippers: Brendan Shanahan, Daniel DelBello, Colin Kennedy, Jay Spector
Crews: Matthew Ricci, Meagan Murphy, Sarah McCormack, Kaitlin Denney
Coach Pearce's take: "Every race in this regatta will be very winnable, and the challenge will be to stay aggressive and battle hard in every race. The top two teams will move on to the MAISA Team Race Championships next weekend, which GW has never competed in, so we are hoping to make some history and elevate our performance to a higher level."
A Division: Benjamin Helfand, Kelly Dong
B Division: Madison Oleson, Gabriella Marki, alternate crew Michael Ince
Coach Pearce's take: "After winning the William & Mary Open and the CNU Women's Regatta two weeks ago, we are gunning for another win at CJ's Regatta. We've been sailing very well against the teams that will be there, so we are confident we can put in a strong performance again."
