GW Sailing Set for ICSA Coed Nationals
Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday
SAN DIEGO -- Following a 10th place finish at the ICSA Women’s Nationals, the George Washington sailing team opens competition in Coed National Semifinals on Tuesday morning.
GW is in the Western Division, which includes 18 teams, with the top nine moving on to the national finals after two days of semifinal racing. Racing gets underway at 10:30 a.m. PT.
The competition team for the Colonials consists of Brendan Shanahan and Miranda Bakos in A Division and Kai Friesecke and Riley Legault in B Division. Andrew Sheerin will serve as an alternate skipper while alternate crews are Belle Strachan, Henry Young, Shira Golub and Connor West.
“We are fortunate to have already sailed four days on San Diego Bay during the Women's Nationals, so we feel like we have a good understanding of the common wind and water conditions,” said head coach John Pearce. “Every race is different, so we will be working hard on day one of the semifinals to identify the high percentage moves on the racecourse. We are very excited to race in our first Coed Nationals since the 1950's and to continue progressing as a nationally competitive team!”
