GW vs. Liberty - Friday, 7 p.m. | Gametracker

After splitting action with Towson and Rider at the Navy Invitational this past weekend, the George Washington women's soccer team wraps up its three-game road swing with a match against Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Colonials (3-3) travel to Liberty before returning home to the GW Soccer Field on the Mount Vernon Campus for a five-match homestand that includes local rivals American and Howard, followed by kickoff of Atlantic 10 action with Richmond, VCU and Charlotte.

GW is coming off a 1-1 weekend of action at the Navy Invitational in nearby Annapolis, Md. On Friday, the Colonials defeated Towson, 2-1, to match its best start through five games since the 2007 season. On Sunday, however, GW saw its record evened at 3-3 after being edged by Rider, 1-0. Freshman goalkeeper Nicole Fasano made eight saves in goal on the weekend and allowed just two goals. Seniors Samie Cloutier and Adriana Moya and freshman Amanda Gaggioli were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Liberty (4-3) is coming off a 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh which snapped a three-game win streak for the Lady Flames. Liberty is led by senior Lauren Stell and freshman Crystal Elmers, who have each recorded two goals and an assist through seven games, while redshirt senior goalkeeper Karen Blocker has allowed five goals on the season and made 22 saves.

The George Washington men's soccer team concludes its five-game road trip with a visit to Bryant on Sunday for an 11 a.m. kickoff.

The game will be a rematch of last season's contest, which saw GW forward Seth Rudolph score the game-winner in the 89th minute to lift the Colonials to a 3-2 victory at home in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Rudolph's tally came with 86 seconds remaining in regulation and capped a frenzied 25-minute stretch in which the teams combined to score all five goals.

GW (3-2-0) is coming off a 2-0 win over Liberty last Sunday at VMI's Jay Sculley Memorial Tournament. Rudolph scored both of the Colonials' goals in a span of five minutes in the second half, while redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jean-Pierre van der Merwe recorded his first career shutout, GW's second of the season.

Bryant (0-2-1) has not played since a 4-4 draw with in-state Rhode Island on Sept. 3. Four different Bulldogs accounted for all four goals - Bryant's first tallies of the season after two consecutive shutouts to open the year. Goalie Chris Knaub has posted a 2.04 goals-against average and a .632 save percentage in just over 300 minutes.

GOLF - @GW_Golf

Coming off its first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship last spring, the George Washington golf team opens 2012 fall action on Monday, Sept. 17 at the two-day 19^th annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I., and the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth, R.I.

The Colonials will compete at the par-70, 6,948-yard Newport Country Club on Monday before playing the par-71, 6,675-yard course at the Carnegie Abbey Club. GW is joined in the 12-team field by Bryant, Connecticut, fellow conference member Fordham, Johnson & Wales (Fla.), Hartford, Ivy League champion Penn, Rhode Island, UCF, Sacred Heart, Villanova and Yale.

"We are excited to get back on the course and show that this team is capable of winning several tournaments," fifth year head coach and reigning A-10 Coach of the Year Terry Shaffer ('79) said. "We lost some good players to graduation this spring, but we have filled the void with talented freshmen. I anticipate a very successful fall season."

Newport Country Club was founded in 1893 and served as home to both the first U.S. Amateur Championship and U.S. Open in 1985. Most recently, Newport C.C. hosted the 2006 U.S. Women's Open.

The Colonials return six players from last season's roster and welcome four highly-touted newcomers in freshmen Michael Helton, Howard Hickey, Carlos Pena and Steve Piela.

MEN'S WATER POLO - @GW_WaterPolo

The George Washington men's water polo team will compete in its third tournament in as many weekends when it travels to Cambridge, Mass., for the CWPA North/South Tournament at Harvard's Blodgett Pool.

GW (4-4) open the eight-team tournament against 19th-ranked Brown (10-2) on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in a rematch of last week's 11-3 Bear victory at the Princeton Invitational. The Colonials will then face either Iona or No. 13 Princeton later in the day depending on the outcome of each contest. Each team will also play one game on Sunday. Other teams competing at the tournament include No. 20 St. Francis (N.Y.), Bucknell, Mercyhurst and Harvard.

Sophomore Brian Mojica leads the Colonials with 23 points on 12 goals and 11 assists, while junior Nate Little has scored a team-high 17 goals. In addition, freshman Bogdan Petkovic has tallied 11 goals, 11 assists and a team-best 26 steals.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY - @GWCrossCountry

The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday as they head to Annapolis, Md., to participate in the Navy Invitational and Salty Dog Invitational, respectively, at the United States Naval Academy Golf Club.

On the men's side, the Colonials will compete against the host Midshipmen along with American, Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Malone and UMBC at 11:00 a.m.

Navy (6^th), American (14^th) and Loyola (15^th) are all currently ranked in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Poll.

The GW men opened the 2012 season on Sept. 1, running to a third-place finish out of 10 competing teams at the Sea Gull Opener in Salisbury, Md. The Colonials registered four top-20 finishes, led by sophomore John-Louis Pane (14^th of 116). Freshman Kyle Ames (17th), senior Alex Dadds (18th) and freshman John Tucker (20th) followed to pace GW.

On the women's side, the Colonials will race against seven teams, including four that rank in the USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Region Poll. Navy (6^th), Maryland (11^th), American (14^th) and Loyola (15^th), along with Johns Hopkins, UMBC and Malone, round out the field. Racing begins at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The GW women also opened their 2012 campaign at the Seagull Opener on September 1. The Colonials finished 2nd out of 11 teams, led by top-10 finishes from senior Heather Stevens (3rd of 146), senior Juliana Stern (6th) and freshman Caroline Wolfe (7th). Senior Juila Weir (14th) also finished in top 20.

The George Washington sailing team will send competitors to both the SUNY Maritime Fall Open in Throggs Neck, N.Y., and the Edward Teach Memorial in Hampton, Va., for its second week of regattas as a varsity program.

The SUNY Maritime Fall Open will consist of some of the top teams from the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA).  GW will join the host Maritime Privateers, as well as Buffalo, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Fordham, Georgetown, Hamilton, Hobart and William Smith, Maryland, Navy, RIT, RPI, Syracuse, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Virginia and the Webb Institute. 

Head coach John Pearce will send the experienced duo of senior skipper Ian Conners and senior crew Rebecca Engel for the 'A' Division at the SUNY Maritime event, while freshman skipper Jay Spector and sophomore crew Meagan Murphy, along with senior alternate crew Skye Kussman, will sail in the 'B' Division.  "The goal is to continue gaining regatta experience and build on some of what we learned last weekend," said Coach Pearce.

GW will battle teams from the southern half of MAISA - American, Bucknell, Christopher Newport, Hampton, Old Dominion, Virginia and William & Mary - at Hampton's Edward Teach Memorial.

In the 'A' Division, senior Dickie Sant will skipper and junior Sarah McCormack will crew, while in the 'B' Division, freshman Ben Helfand will skipper and junior Erin McCormack will crew.
