GW Sailing Set for Truxtun Umsted Regatta
Colonials set to race against strong MAISA field
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington sailing team hits the midway point of the fall season this weekend as it is set to compete at the Truxtun Umsted regatta at Navy.
GW will send a strong group of 10 sailors to compete in the event which has four divisions, two of them doublehanded and two of them singlehanded.
Representing GW will be seniors Brendan Shanahan and Daniel DelBello, junior Kai Friesecke, sophomores Wade Wagner and Connor West and freshman Briggs D’Eliscu; along with junior Belle Strachan, sophomore Riley Legault and freshmen Andreea Ranney-Pace and Katie Lounsbury.
GW's likely starters include Shanahan and Ranney-Pace in A Division, Friesecke and Lounsbury in B Division, DelBello in C Division and Legault in D Division. Strachan, D'Eliscu, West and Wagner will serve as alternates.
“We're sending all the troops down to this regatta, which is arguably the toughest of the semester,” said head coach Billy Martin. “Since it is a four division regatta, many more athletes are needed and it will be a great chance to showcase our depth.”
