Sailing to Compete for MAISA Women’s Championship

Miranda Bakos and Belle Strachan will sail in A Division at the MAISA Fall Dinghy for the third straight year
Oct. 19, 2017

The GW sailing team is set for championship racing this weekend as it heads to SUNY Maritime to compete in the MAISA Women’s Fall Dinghy, which serves as the conference championship.

Ranked 10th nationally in the women’s poll, GW hopes for a strong performance with a number of sailors who helped win the event in 2015. For the third consecutive season, Miranda Bakos and Belle Strachan will sail in A Division, while a quartet of sailors will represent GW in B Division. Among them is Riley Legault, who skippered in B Division last season.

A top-seven finish will qualify GW for the Atlantic Coast Championship, to be held Nov. 11-12 at College of Charleston. Head coach Billy Martin and Strachan preview the event in the video below. In addition to the MAISA Women’s Fall Dinghy, the Colonials will compete in the Central Fall Open at Washington College.
