GW Men's Squash Falls to Navy in First-Ever Home Match

Feb. 18, 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Over 100 spectators turned out to watch the George Washington University men's squash team compete in its first-ever home match, Wednesday, Jan. 19, as the Colonials fell to perennial top 10 ranked Navy 9-0 at the Health and Wellness Center.

The match was highlighted by a grueling battle between GW junior Greg Vernick (West Roxbury, MA/Milton Academy) and the Midshipmen's Tucker George.

Both teams' number one players fought through five sets and close to two hours before George pulled out the victory.

"(We) did out best between against a heavily favored Navy squad," GW head coach Simon Harrington said. "A rowdy crowd got to see a fantastic collision between both schools' number one players."

The Colonials close out their 2004-05 season when they travel to Boston, MA, Friday, to compete in the End of the Season Championships. The team seeks its second title in three years.
