Men's Squash Victorious Over Virginia, 7-2, In Opener

Nov. 4, 2003

Final Stats

Washington, DC - The George Washington men's squash team opened the 2003-04 season with a commanding victory over Virginia on Sunday, November 2 at the United States Naval Academy. The Colonials played some powerful squash in a 7-2 victory to start the season with a 1-0 record.

The Colonials played devestating squash, winning in each of the first five spots. Sophomore Ben Hoefs (Franklin, MI/Detroit Country Day School) made his debut at the third position and pulled out a 3-2 win over Virginia's Elliot Poole. Junior Tyler Wolas (Boca Raton, FL/Pine Crest) also made a strong debute in the number-four position.

Sophomore Greg Vernick (West Roxbury, MA/Milton Academy) and Sophomore Dhruv Singh (Jaipur, India/Mayo College) showed their usual composure as they dismantled their opponents. In the nine-spot, senior captain Jake Greenbaum (Brookline, MA/St. Marks) used a steady game of hitting slow and deep to overwhelm his opponent in a 3-0 match.

The Colonials still have a lot of work to do before they play several important matches in two weeks including a match against 20th ranked Stanford on Saturday, November 15 at Navy.
