GW Swimming Takes To The Pool For 2003 With Loss To UMBC

Baltimore, MD - GW swimming and diving fell to UMBC as the season resumed for 2003. While the squad lost the dual meet, several individuals registered strong performances. Freshman Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley), sophomore Jessica Jaross (Malvern, PA/Great Valley), and junior Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) each had two victories in the meet. On the men's side, freshman Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) and sophomore Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) both notched a win for the Colonials.

The Colonials women won the first four freestyle events with victories in the 50, 100, 200, and 400 yard freestyle races in succession. Boland led the field in the 50-yd freestyle with a time of 0:25.43 and followed up that performence with a winning time of 0:54.92 in the 100-yd freestyle. Fagley took first in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:56.86 and followed with a victory in the 500-yd freestyle in 5:08.91. Jaross won both of the diving events for the women with a score of 203.48 in the 1-meter dive and a 200.40 score in the 3-meter dive.

The Colonials men's team was led by Adam and Ferretti. Adam took first in the 200-yd breaststroke with a time of 2:10.51 while Ferretti won the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 4:50.89. GW's women are now 3-3 while the men fell to 0-7. The Colonials compete next at William and Mary on Saturday, January 18th at 2:00pm.
