Women's Swimming And Diving Defeats William And Mary In Tri-Meet

Baltimore, MD - The Colonials swimming and diving team opened the 2004 portion of their season at a tri-meet with William and Mary and hosted by the University of Maryland-Baltimore County at the UMBC Natatorium. GW's women defeated William and Mary with a score of 129-113 and lost to host UMBC 131-102. The men were defeated by William and Mary, 135-90 and UMBC, 136-92.

The Colonials were led on the women's side by senior Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) who won the 500-yd freestyle in a time of 504.78. Her first-place time was an impressive five seconds faster than any other competitor. She also finished second in the 200-yd freestyle.

Sophomore Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) earned a first-place finish in the 200-yd individual medley. Moss recorded a time of 2:08.75 more than a second faster than the second-place finisher. She also finished second in the 200-yd backstroke.

In women's diving, Jessica Jaross (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) won the three-meter with a score of 198.40. Senior Rob Stuart (Greenville, DE/Alexis I Du Pont) put in a second place performance for the Colonials on the men's side.

Finishing in second for the men's team was Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) who recorded a time of 2:11.68 in the 200-yd breaststroke. The men's and women's 400-yd medley relay teams both swam to second-place finishes in the field of three competing schools.

The Colonials women's team competes at Richmond on Wednesday, January 28th, 2004 at 4:00 pm. GW swimming and diving then returns to Smith Center on Saturday, January 31st, 2004 for the team's final home meet of the season when the Colonials take on George Mason at 11:00 am.
