Women's Swimming Places Second, Men Fall at Tri-Meet

FAIRFAX, VA (Jan. 26) - George Washington sophomores Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill) and Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster Academy) and junior David Dillehay (Gallatin, TN/Gallatin) each managed first place finishes in GW's meet against George Mason and St. Bonaventure in Fairfax, VA. The women's team placed second, outscoring SBU, while the men's team struggled against both teams.

Dubyel grasped first in the 100-yd backstroke in a close race where her time of 1:00.42 is now her season best in that event. She also placed second in the 100-yd fly with her new season top time of :58.15. Her 200-yd free relay team, which also includes juniors Shannon Lynch (Medford, NJ/Lenape) and Ashley Orchard (Tamarac, FL/Bradenton Christian) and freshman Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel), placed first with a time of 1:40.54, their current top season time. Fagley achieved first in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:56.29 and second in the 200-yd backstroke (2:09.12). She finished up her individual events with a first place finish in the 500-yd freestyle in 5:08.18.

For the men's side, Dillehay captured the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 4:42.45. He also managed to grab the 1000-yd freestyle in 9:46.71. Fellow teammate freshman Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) also swam well in the 1000-yd free, placing second with a time of 9:54.86.

The Colonials return to the pool tomorrow, Sunday, January 27, as they compete against the University of Maryland-Baltimore County and East Carolina in Baltimore, MD. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m.
