Women's Swimming And Diving Loses To Richmond, 166-121

RICHMOND, VA - GW's women's swimming and diving team (3-4) lost 166-121 in a dual meet against conference-rival Richmond on Wednesday. The Colonials recorded five first place finishes paced by Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) who won twice. Moss also swam the leadoff leg of the 200-yd medley relay which the team finished in a season-best time of 1:49.88.
Moss won the 100-yd backstroke in a time of 57.63 which was only half a second off of her Colonials record time of 57.16 which she set earlier this season at the Patriot Invitational. Moss also recorded a winning time of 2:04.46 in the 200-yd backstroke which was more than two seconds faster than the next-fastest Spider.
Kirsten Rasmusen (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) took first place in the 100-yd breaststroke with a winning time of 1:07.35. She won in a close contest with Richmond's DeRuosi by just two tenths of a second. Senior Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster) added another first place finish when she won the 500-yd freestyle in a time of 5:05.50.
In women's diving, Jessica Jaross (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) won the three-meter with a score of 220.05 almost 25 points more than Richmond's top diver. Jaross also placed second in the one-meter dive with a score of 192.48.
The Colonials men's and women's swimming and diving teamss return to Smith Center on Saturday, January 31st for their final meet of the season when GW hosts George Mason. Swimming at Smith Center starts at 11:00 am while diving will be held at George Mason with a 9:00 am start time. Saturday's meet will serve as Senior Day for the Colonials and a brief ceremony is scheduled to take place during the first break, estimated to be at 11:45 am.
