Maggie Moss Sets School Record In 200-yd Backstroke

Jan. 30, 2003

Final Stats

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington University freshman Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) set a GW record in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 2:04.71 Wednesday at Smith Center. Moss' record-setting race came against the top competitors in the Atlantic 10. Three of Richmond's swimmers hold the top three times in the conference this year. Moss's victory, her second of the day, was not enough as the Colonials (4-5) lost to Richmond, 183-108.

In addition to setting a school record, Moss also won the 100-yd backstroke with a time of 58.66. Moss now has the second-fastest time in this event in the Atlantic 10 this season. She also swam a strong 200-yd individual medley finishing third against the league's top two swimmers.

Two other top performrs were sophomore Jessica Jaross (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) and senior Ashley Orchard (Tamarac, FL/Pine Crest). Jaross won the 1-meter dive competition with a score of 133.25 and followed with a season-best score of 207.83 in the 3-meter dive. Orchard won the 100-yd freestyle with a time of 0:54.75 against two of the league's Top 10 swimmers in this event. Orchard's time was just off of the season's top A-10 times.

The last meet of the season at Smith Center for the Colonials' men and women will be on Saturday, February 1, at 10:30 a.m. The diving competition for this event will be held at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, during the same time.
