ANNAPOLIS, MD - The George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams began its 2005-06 seasons Saturday afternoon with each team placing second of three in a meet hosted by the Naval Academy at Lejuene Hall.
The men's squad defeated Loyola College 195 - 85 but fell to Navy 219.50 - 69.50.
The GW women also triumphed over Loyola, winning by a score of 184 - 116, but lost to Navy 211- 111.
Senior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) and freshman David Zenk (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day School) led the Colonials as Moss placed first in three events while Zenk finished first in two and second in one. Senior Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/ Severna Park) also earned two first place finishes for the Colonials.
Moss took the 100-meter backstroke (1:05.03), the 200-meter backstroke (2:22.52) and the 200-meter individual medley (2:27.86).
Zenk won the 100-meter back (58.27 seconds) and the 200-meter IM (2:10.66), and placed second in the 200-meter back (2:10.12).
Adam's time of 1:06.39 in the 100-meter breaststroke placed him first in the event, as did his time of 2:26.76 in the 200-meter back.
Freshman Laura Myers (Cedarburg, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels) also recorded a first place finish for GW, taking the 50-meter freestyle in 28.05 seconds.
Senior Jeff Glazer (Dix Hills, NY/Commack) placed first in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:12.15.

Glazer, Zenk and juniors Daniel Mahoney (Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) and Jeffrey Cohn New Orleans, LA/Isadore Newman) contributed to the victory.
In the women's win, Moss, seniors Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley) and Caitlin Hyde (Fairless Hills, PA/Bensalem) and junior Monica Pampell (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) each participated in the event.
GW returns to action Saturday when they travel to Philadelphia, PA for a meet hosted by La Salle. The meet gets underway at 1:00 PM.
