GW Swimming and Diving Handles Howard

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams easily took care of Howard University Saturday afternoon as the men's squad won 140-65 and the women won 112-73 in the Colonials' home opener at the Charles E. Smith Athletic Center Pool.

GW placed first in 15 of the meet's 24 overall events.

Five GW performers recorded two first place finishes including diver's John Osterholt (Hollywood, FL/Charminade Madonna) and Alicia Moulton (North Andover, MA/North Andover).

Osterholt took the one-meter event with a score of 247.58, surpassing his previous career high by 33.54 points. He also won the three-meter event with a score of 226.28.

Moulton established personal bests in both diving events, scoring 233.10 points in the one-meter and 225.38 points in the three-meter.

Freshman Tom Pullen (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) notched a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.16) and the 100-yard butterfly (54.86 seconds).

Freshman David Zenk (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day School) placed first in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.42 seconds) and in the 100-yard backstroke (52.34 seconds).

Senior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) won two events on the women's side, taking the 100-yard backstroke (58.40 seconds) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.92).

Other top GW finishers for the women included senior Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.87) and freshman Laura Myers (Cedarburg, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angles) in the 50-yard freestyle.

 

 

For the men, junior Jeffrey Cohn (New Orleans, LA/Isadore Newman) took the 100-yard freestyle event (48.07 seconds) and reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Jeff Glazer (Dix Hills, NY/Commack), a sophomore, won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.74).

GW also finished first in the 200-yard medley relay (1:53.34) as Zenk, senior Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/Severna Park), junior Jonathan Sabin (Fairfield, CT/Fairfield) and junior Daniel Mahoney (Oakland, CA/Bishop O'Dowd) all combined in on the win.

The Colonials' next meet is the annual George Mason Invitational, scheduled for Friday, Nov. 18, through Sunday, Nov. 20th, in Fairfax, VA.
